The Fruitport Fire Department is very involved in Fire Safety and Prevention in the community. Each year during the month of October we visit our local elementary schools and preschool facilities. We talk with all the kids from pre-school to 3 rd grade about fire safety.

We also have a Juvenile Fire Setters Program that was developed to educate any juvenile that has been playing with fire or talks about setting a fire. This is a voluntary program that the parent or guardian can enroll the child in by contacting our department.

Another goal we have is that every home in Fruitport Township has at least one working smoke detector. They can be purchased locally at such places as Lowe’s, Walmart, Meijer Inc., to name a few. If a family can’t afford to purchase a smoke detector, please contact our department and we will get one for you. We also will assist the elderly in installing a smoke detector if they are unable to have it installed. Below are a list of useful Links to Fire Prevention and Fire Safety:

Fire Prevention does not stop there however. The Fruitport Fire Department also conducts annual Fire Safety Inspections of the businesses in our community, and upon request can do a Fire Safety Inspection of your home by contacting our department. We also encourage the purchase of Knox Box Fire Department Emergency Access Unit on all existing businesses, and require them on all new commercial buildings that are located in our community. This system allows a reliable and safe method of accessing a business to firefighters during an emergency without costing the business owner unnecessary damage to the facility should forced entry be required.
